The forklift is a material handling machine utilized to raise and transport loads from one place to another. Every forklift part has a specific function. Various parts can be used to transport the load either horizontally or vertically.

Mast
The components used to lower and lift the load is called the forklift mast. There are different kinds of masts utilized for lifting loads to various heights: quad, simplex, duplex and triplex.

Power Supply
Forklifts have four various ways of being powered: electric, gas, diesel and propane. The battery is located inside the cab beneath the seat. The propane tank is on the back of the truck. The fuel tank on diesel and gas forklifts is underneath the back of the truck.

Cab
Situated within the middle of the truck is the forklift cab. This is where the operator sits and accesses all the informational gauges and controls. The gas pedal, steering wheel, brake, lifting controls and tilting controls are all located inside the cab.

Frame
Carrying all the largest forklift components is the truck frame. This includes the counterweights situated at the back that prevents the truck from tipping over when loaded. The frame consists of the overhead guard which protects the operator. The undercarriage holds the axles, wheels and driveshaft.
